Youth Media Interns at our various RecTech locations gain media literacy while learning marketable technology skills.  Interns learn the fundamentals of Storytelling, Interviewing, Directing, Camera work & Lighting, Music Production, Graphic Design, Sound Recording, and Video Editing.  Interns work individually and in teams and through project-based learning and access to digital technology, they learn professional media applications and develop habits of inquiry, teamwork, and the self-expression skills that they need to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and active citizens in today’s world.

Youth Media Institute: Digital Media and Film Making
June 27 – August 16; Monday – Thursday: 1:00 PM – 5:15 PM (128 HRS)

Youth Media Interns at Delridge will gain media literacy while learning marketable technology skills. Interns will learn the fundamentals of Storytelling, Interviewing, Directing, Camera work, Lighting, Sound Recording, and Editing. Through project-based learning and access to digital technology, interns will learn professional media applications and develop habits of inquiry, teamwork, and the self-expression skills that they need to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and active citizens in today’s world.
Interns will work individually and in teams on short films, animation, documentaries, radio, and personal narratives. We will also create a Public Service Announcement for a non-profit organization that contributes to a socially responsible world. Following production, we will screen, critique, and discuss our work.

Intern compensation provided by the Seattle Youth Employment Project/$15.00/HR

GROUPBEAT – Music Production. Graphic Design. Social Networking
July 5 – August 19; Monday – Thursday, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM (112 hrs)
RecTech at Rainier is proud to announce this summer’s GroupBeat summer internship. Throughout our 7-week program, interns will explore the cultural aspects of music past and present, to communicate the meaning behind ‘the beat’. They will develop skills in computer music production on industry standard software, and explore the technical side of making beats just like the pros. Interns will also learn the industry leader in Graphic Design software, and develop an engaging identity & brand for their finished product. Finally, social media will be utilized to connect interns with like-minded artists and listeners all around the world.

The Rainier Beach youth media Internship will provide teens with the career readiness graphic design and software skills it takes to create a good website. You will learn how to best convey a website’s message to its designated audience along with technical skills in typography, web layouts, illustration, and much more.
